LOOQAL Sustainable Tip #01: Plan Your Meals
Sustainable living is sometimes thought of as an inconvenience and an indicator of a lower quality of living by some, especially in terms of our meal or dining choices.
Don’t get me wrong, I love heading out for dinner at a nice restaurant or ordering a delicious pizza after I’ve had a long day. It is possible to enjoy these conveniences while still balancing them out with more sustainable eating choices.
I firmly believe that proper planning takes out the perceived hassle of eating sustainably. Before the week begins, I make time to carefully create a meal plan for my family. This digital weekly meal plan from Bright Green is so simple to use and I follow it up with a shopping list.
By doing my own grocery shopping, I get to choose local fresh produce instead of relying on imported goods that have a larger carbon footprint. I also get to be more conscious of the seasonings as compared to eating out. But most of all, I love meal prepping because it helps me reduce waste. I control what I buy and I find ways to use it all as much as I can.
Joyce’s Top Tip for The Day:
My favourite hack is to plan for four meals and buy enough for eight meals. I then use the excess fresh produce from each meal to create two other meals. This way, I get to reduce the amount of waste from each item I buy and I get to be creative with what we’ll eat for the other two meals!
It is possible to live more sustainably while maintaining the quality of life that we enjoy. The answer lies in our choices.
How are you making your life more sustainable?
